Wondering which golf clubs you should buy?

By: Lee MacRae

With a larger variety of golf clubs coming onto the scene every week, it can become more and more difficult to determine just exactly what you should be looking for when buying new clubs.

Follow along as we discuss each type and what may be best for you.

To begin with, it should be noted that ordinary, everyday golf clubs will work for virtually anybody standing between 5 feet and six feet tall. That can be said to apply to men as well as to women. Anyone else should consider looking to custom clubs for the best fit.

Cast or Forged Clubs?

For most golfers, the standard cast iron clubs are the proper way to go.

Why do we say that? Because of the bigger "sweet spot" we tend to find on clubs made with cast iron. That refers to the area right in the middle of the club face. A larger sweet spot gives you a larger striking area and greater odds for a well-hit shot. You can still be a little "off center" and the ball is still struck well because you have a larger margin of error. You can see why beginners are usually told to stay with cast iron clubs Without a steady consistant swing, a larger striking area will produce better shots overall. That is why clubs like "Big Bertha" came on the market. The large oversized head obviously gives a much larger sweet spot than a normal driver. Average golfers get longer and straighter drives on a more consistant basis.

Conversely, forged iron golf clubs have a much smaller sweet spot and it is far more difficult to hit a ball well with this kind of club.

So why even make golf clubs out of forged iron, you ask?

This is due to the fact that forged iron offers a better "feel" on your shot because it is a softer metal than cast iron. The more seasoned player, especially the pros on the circuit, don't need that larger sweet spot. They have a more consistant swing plane and strike the ball with far more accuracy. They use the "feel" of the the forged iron clubs to influence the flight of the ball in a way that a beginner or average player can't.

The next consideration is the material for the shaft. Steel or composite?

The crucial touchstone here is club head speed. An ordinary duffer on the links will have a club head speed in the range of 80-94 mph. Generating lower speeds typically implies you should use a shaft of composite material . The result of lower swing speed is less yardage on each shot. You want to find some way to offset your lower swing speed. And that is where the composite golf club shaft enters the picture. It gives you a lot more distance than you would get with your normal swing and a steel shaft.

By contrast, those with good distances on their shots, will fare much better by using a steel shaft that will give them some touch and control on their shots.

Determining your own swing speed is not difficult. If you don't have a local pro shop with the right equipment, you can find small microwave Doppler radar devices that are run by AAA batterieson the market. You simply set it near your tee and swing away.

With only these few starting tips, it is typically best if you rent a few different sets of clubs as you play and take note of how each club serves or handicaps your game. You are looking to ascertain your own strengths as well as weaknesses. Check out the assorted types and varieties of golf clubs you may find in a rental shop, for example, and discover what works best for you.

Work on these tips and make sure you tee off with a positive mindset. The more you practice and implement what you learn, the more confidence you will gain in your ability to hit it straight and long. And watch your scores begin to plummet!

Which Golf Clubs Are Best For You?

By: Lee MacRae

With so many different makes and types of golf clubs on the market, it is no wonder beginners, let alone the more experienced golfer, can become easily confused when it comes to buying clubs.

Follow along as we examine what is available on the market today and what they can do for you...and your golf game.

To begin with, it can be stated that "off the shelf" golf clubs will work for nearly everybody standing between 5 feet and six feet tall. The principle applies to both sexes. There are enough standard clubs on the market that you should be able to find ones to suit the rest of your needs in a golf club.

If you are outside the heights for standard clubs, then you may want to look at getting custom clubs made just for you.

Cast or Forged Golf Club?

Cast iron is the normal route to take when buying new clubs.

The major reason? Well, cast iron golf clubs normally have a bigger "sweet spot". That term refers to the area in the middle of the face of the club head where the ball should be struck for maximum distance and accuracy. The bigger the sweet spot, the better chance of hitting well it every time. Being a little off center will not affect your shot to any great degree. You can see why beginners are usually told to stay with cast iron clubs Until their swing plane is more developed, they will have an easier time striking the ball on a consistant basis with the cast iron club.

So why would people buy a forged iron golf club?

For a very simple reason. Cast iron is a softer metal that offers a better "feel" on a shot. The more experienced golfers can use this feel to great advantage, shaping their shots, even curving them intentionally when the circumstances require it. So, in effect, they trade off the larger sweet spot for the shot shaping feel of a forged iron club.

Next question, will you use steel or a composite material for the shaft of your new club?

The significant factor here is club head speed. A typical golfer will have a club velocity between 80-94 mph. A slower swing speed means you had better think of using a shaft made from composite material, not steel. The result of lower swing speed is less yardage on each shot. You want to find some way to offset your lower swing speed. And that is where the composite shaft material comes in. The composite shaft will give you longer drives than you will normally get with your low swing speed and steel shafted golf clubs.

On the other hand, if you already have good distance on your shots due to good swing speed, you can add some touch and feel to your game very similar to that obtained by using the forged iron clubs. You get the best of both worlds.

Have your swing speed determined by visiting your local pro shop or a golf store that is equiped with a swing speed radar device. Or simply buy a small radar device for yourself. You can find some small devices that operate by batteries but are effective enough to determine your swing speed.

With just these few starting hints, it is generally best if you rent a few different sets of clubs as you play and take note of how each club assists or hinders your game. You are searching to determine your personal strong points and weak points. Try out the diverse types and sorts of clubs available to you and see what works best for your own game.

These simple golf driving tips have proved effective in helping many golfers around the world improve their drives off the tee. Simply apply what you have read here to your own circumstances. Here's to your own improvement!

Your clubs are probably the first piece of golf equipment to consider for an upgrade, once your on the verge of challenging Tiger for the crown. You could decide to replace the entire set of clubs, if money is no object, and your appetite for golf domination has no bounds. But there is another option to consider. There are probably many golf clubs in your bag, that haven't seen the light of day, or the green of a course since the last time you paid for drinks on the nineteenth hole. So, maybe you should just consider gradually replacing the clubs you really use with new high performance clubs. The next few times you go golfing, don't just keep track of the strokes on each hole. Take an extra golf score card, and just track of the golf clubs you use for each hole. A little more work, but after a few weeks, you should have a pretty good idea of which golf clubs you use the most, and which are just coming along for the ride. You may want to make up your own little custom golf club score card just for this exercise.

Which Golf Clubs Are Best For You?

By: Lee MacRae

Are you looking to buy new golf clubs? Finding it difficult to determine what will work the best for you? Newcomers especially can become bewildered by the large variety of golf clubs you see when you are looking to buy.

Follow along as we examine what is available on the market today and what they can do for you...and your golf game.

First, are you between five and six feet tall? Then standard clubs will most likely work for you. That can be said to apply to men as well as to women. If you are outside those parameters, then you may need to look at custom fitted clubs.

Cast Iron or Forged Iron?

Standard cast iron golf clubs are the normal way to go.

Why, you ask? Very simply because standard cast iron clubs tend to have a larger "sweet spot". That refers to the area right smack dab in the middel of the club face where you are supposed to hit the ball. The larger the "sweet spot" on a club face, the more area you have to strike the ball well. Being a little off center will not affect your shot to any great degree. You can see why beginners are usually told to stay with cast iron clubs Their swing is not as consistant as a seasoned golfer or a pro and so they have an easier time driving the ball well with a larger sweet spot at their disposal. This is the major reason why you see larger or even "oversized" clubs made, especially the oversized drivers today. These clubs allow for a larger sweet spot and make the game a lot easier for the average player

With forged iron clubs you have the exact opposite. A smaller sweet spot that makes your drives that much harder to hit well.

So why would people buy a forged iron golf club?

Well, because they are made of a softer steel, they offer a better "feel" on each and every shot. The more experienced player has a much more defined and repeatable swing, allowing them to hit the smaller sweet spot with much more consistancy. They don't need that larger "margin of error" the beginner needs. And now, the better "feel" allows him or her the added advantage of being able to manoevre and/or "shape" each shot to the circumstances as needed.

The shaft of the club is the next item to look at. What will it be made of? A composite or steel?

The significant factor here is club speed. A typical golfer will have a club head velocity between 80-94 mph. A slower swing speed usually signifies you had better think of using a shaft made from composite material . With a slower swing speed comes less distance on your drives. Less distance means more shots needed to reach the putting green. Not a good thing if you want to lower your score. Composite shafts will allow you to get that much needed distance on your shots. And even within the composite shaft class, you will find variations in flex and materials that will affect your game.

For those of you with faster swing speeds, and subsequenlty good distances, steel shafted clubs will give you a lot more control on your shots. This is very similar to the advantages of iron over cast clubs.

Have your swing speed determined by visiting your local pro shop or a golf store that is equiped with a swing speed radar device. Or simply buy a small radar device for yourself. You can find some small devices that operate by batteries but are effective enough to determine your swing speed.

With simply these few starting hints, it is ordinarily best if you rent a few different sets of clubs as you play and take note of how each club helps or impedes your game. You are searching to learn your personal strengths as well as weaknesses. Use as many clubs as you can beg, borrow, steal or rent. The more you use, the more you will learn about your own game.

These simple golf driving tips have proved effective in helping many golfers around the world improve their drives off the tee. Simply apply what you have read here to your own circumstances. Here's to your own improvement!

Golf Tips To Improve Your Game

by Lee MacRae

The following tips have been gleaned from various sources over the years. We hope you enjoy them.

Throughout the entire swing you should let your body swing your arms, much like swinging a heavy ball at the end of a chain. If you keep your elbows together and in front of your center (the upper part of your body) in the hitting area centrifugal force will create club head speed. The faster you can move the body in the forward swing without sacrificing a smooth rhythmic tempo the more club head speed you will develop. The left arm will rotate and the right arm will extend and cross over the left, just as a home run hitter's arms react. It is imperative that you keep the body moving to the finish. Otherwise the arms and hands will deliver prematurely.

Jack Nicklaus once give a clinic years ago at the Inverarry Country Club in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Jack hit 12 tee shots of various trajectories from high to low. Not once was the tee knocked out of the ground and in all cases he elected to leave the height of the tee the same - he had the ball teed high. An effective optical aid you may want to use would be another golf tee other than the one the ball is teed upon. Note in the illustration, the tee is angled in the level to sightly upward position in relation to the ground. By placing the secondary tee across from the ball being struck, the student can set for himself the path the clubhead must be on in order to strike the ball with a solid, level blow.

A common cause of tension lies in the grip. An improper grip, or one that is too tight, creates tension that continues up the arms, through the shoulders, down the body and to the legs is sure to wreck your swing. Tension is the greatest robber of motion. The result is a hitting action rather than a swinging motion. A correct grip can relieve the pressure; however, it's still possible to have a correct grip and hold on too tightly (tension).

Work on these tips and make sure you tee off with a positive mindset. The more you practice and implement what you learn, the more confidence you will gain in your ability to hit it straight and long. And watch your scores begin to plummet!

Bunkers And Sand Traps - How To Play Them

By Lee MacRae

Getting out of a bunker or sand trap in one shot can do wonders for your confidence and your golf game. Follow along as we lay out some tips, tricks and hints to help you with your sand play and watch the improvement in your next round of golf.

Excessive wrist action can wreck a golf shot. It usually leads to topping or blading, which in a greenside bunker can be especially ruinous. There is usually not much golf course around greens, and a ball blade is out of a bunker could end up in a water hazard, out of bounds, or in some other unplayable lie. It is a good idea, therefore to hit all sand shots with stiff wrists, even those that require you to cock your wrists early on the backswing. Remember; no wrists, no risk.

Because every golfer wants to get up and down from greenside sand, there is always a great pressure to hit the ball close from a bunker. The fact is, however, that a top pro who gets up and down half the time is doing very well indeed. For this reason you should not concentrate on hitting sand shots to tap-in range [that is, to within three feet] as you would do for a long putt. Focus instead on hitting to within a target that's 12 to 15 feet in diameter. That gives you up to 7 1/2 feet to play with on each side of the hole can be much easier bull's-eye to deal with. You'll be more relaxed and will hit the ball even closer.

Don't take digging and planting your feet for granted. Digging your feet into sand will give you a firm base with which to hit the shot. Have Also it will tell you what you're dealing with: how softer or course the sand is, how deep it is, whether there is a layer of hardpan just under the surface. But be careful when digging in, however. If you dig in it too deeply, and then fill in your footprints, you will be guilty of "building a stance&&, which is a breach of rule 13-3. The penalty is two strokes in stroke play or loss or hole in match play.

The average golfer usually fears the shot from a sand bunker and is defeated before they even attempt one. With practice, keeping in mind the proper technique and a few tips and hints, sand play will be a lot easier than you imagined. And your golf game will be better for it.

Some Golf Tips For You

by Lee MacRae

Read along as we offer up some great tips to improve your game of golf.

Keep the angle on your leading hand. Many amateurs tend to flip the hands forward in an effort to get the ball in the air, but this only retards the effort of having good equipment. The leading hand (left hand for most players, right hand for southpaws) should be angled down towards the ball on the downswing. It's like you are hitting the ball with the back of left hand. If your left hand is flipping up on the downswing, your contact will not be solid and you will get consistent misses with your wood. This tip also starts the ball low and lets its climb on its own through your generated power.

One option for better accuracy on tight holes is to choke down a few inches on the grip of the driver. The shorter, firmer swing will enhance accuracy without sacrificing too much distance [you'll still hit longer than you would with a fairway wood]. But the key here is to cut down on the wrist cock and make a three-quarter swing. In other words, you shouldn't really give yourself an opportunity to hit and off line drive

Today's equipment and balls are not tailored necessarily for 7 - 8 degree drivers. That is a thing of the past. Getting the ball up in the air on a good trajectory is the first step to driving the ball longer. Many touring pros regurlaly use 9 and 10 degree drivers and drive the ball 300 plus yards. Plus, you will get much more consistency with a more lofted driver.

If you implement these tips and work on them, you will be certain to develop a better drive within a short period of time. Just keep on practicing and working on your improvement. It's only a matter of time before your scores begin to drop.

Which Golf Clubs Are For You?

By: Lee MacRae

With such a large variety of golf clubs on the market today, it is no wonder that many newcomers to the game have a hard time when it comes to choosing new clubs.

We will go through a few basic tips to help you determine which golf clubs are right for you.

To begin with, it can be stated that "off the shelf" golf clubs will work for nearly everybody standing between 5 feet and six feet tall. That can be said to apply to men as well as to women. Shorter or taller golfers may need to look to the custom club for proper equipment.

Cast or forged iron clubs. Which?

Well, the best answer is usually "cast iron".

What makes cast iron the right choice for most? Well, cast iron golf clubs normally have a bigger "sweet spot". The trem refers to the best area on the club face that will give you the maximum range and accuracy on a shot. The bigger the sweet spot, the better chance of hitting well it every time. Being a little off center will not affect your shot to any great degree.

Why, you ask, are forged iron clubs even made then?

For a very simple reason. Cast iron is a softer metal that offers a better "feel" on a shot. The more experienced golfers can use this feel to great advantage, shaping their shots, even curving them intentionally when the circumstances require it. So, in effect, they trade off the larger sweet spot for the shot shaping feel of a forged iron club.

Next question, will you use steel or a composite material for the shaft of your new club?

How fast can you swing your golf club? Average speed for a golfer falls in the range of 80 to 95 mph. If you have a slower club head speed then you need to look to composite materials. The result of lower swing speed is less yardage on each shot. You want to find some way to offset your lower swing speed. And that is where the composite golf club shaft enters the picture. It gives you a lot more distance than you would get with your normal swing and a steel shaft.

For golfers with faster swing speeds, you don't necessarily need more distance. What you really want is more control. A steel tube shaft will give you that control to go along with your acceptable distance.

In order to determine your personal swing speed, look for a sports shop or golf store that has speed sensor equipment and get yourself clocked.

With merely these few starting points, it is usually best if you rent a few different sets of clubs as you play and take note of how each club aids or hinders your game. You are seeking to see your individual strong points or weaknesses. Try the various types and kinds of golf clubs available to you and, in time, you will be able to determine which clubs offer the best advantages for your game.

These simple golf driving tips have proved effective in helping many golfers around the world improve their drives off the tee. Simply apply what you have read here to your own circumstances. Here's to your own improvement!

Sand Trap Tips And Tecniques

By Lee MacRae

Following are some tips to help improve your golf game.

Many golfers are afraid they will take to much sand and not get the ball out of the bunker. You know you have to hit the sand about two inches behind your ball. So, look for anything as a target - a crease in the sand, a small lump, a dark grain of sand, a small pebble - anything to aim for. Concentrate on THAT spot. Forget all about the ball. Just concentrate on hitting your spot in the sand with the right amount of club and swing. The sand will pop the ball out of the bunker.

The sand shot hit from a downhill lie is one of the toughest of all. Here's how to hit it; the key is ball position. As with other downhill shots, you should play the ball back in your stance, in this case roughly opposite your right foot. Next, swing the club up abruptly, breaking your wrists. Keeping your legs and torso steady, hit into the sand 2 inches behind the ball. Follow through normally. There is not much margin for error on this shot, so once you've picked a spot where you want the club to make contact with the sand, concentrate on hitting that exact spot and followed through.

The longer bunker shot is one of the easiest shots to play and one of the most satisfying in the is entire game. Here are the six fundamentals of the bunker shot:

1. Choke down on the grip of the club to compensate for having to dig your feet into the sand to anchor your body.

2. Do not move the legs during a swing.

3. Take two or sometimes three extra clubs to make up for distance loss by the arms-and-hands-only swing. If you're within reach of the green, take as much club as you'll need for the ball to land near the hole. Because you're hitting down in to the back of the ball, the ball should have enough spin on it to stop quickly.

4. Play the ball in the middle of your stance so you can make contact before the bottom of your swing arc.

5. Always hit the ball first.

6. Don't ground your club. That's a two-stroke penalty.

The average golfer usually fears the shot from a sand bunker and is defeated before they even attempt one. With practice, keeping in mind the proper technique and a few tips and hints, sand play will be a lot easier than you imagined. And your golf game will be better for it.

Basically, there are two main components to play golf - there are the golf ball and the golf clubs. The golf ball is not just a ball it is a scientifically designed piece of equipment. The dimples on a golf ball are designed so that there is less resistance in the air - if you look closely at different brands of golf ball the dimples are slightly different and it you count the dimples on a golf ball some balls have more than others. The inside of the golf ball is also different - this inside of the ball is normally determined by how much spin you want to be able to impart onto the ball, both in the air and upon contact with the ground.

Sand Trap Tips

By Lee MacRae

Sand and bunker shots are some of the most intimidating and yet most rewarding shots in golf. Here are some quick tips to help improve your own shots from the sand.

Here's another piece of visual imagery to help you cut your ball out of sand: imagine that a thick piece of cord is dangling vertically, just behind your ball.Nnow, open your stance to help you swing from the outside in, then use the leading edge of your club to slice the cord were it touches the sand. Soon you'll find yourself opening the blade properly, cutting through the ball the way the pros do.

If you find yourself in a sand bunker position where the ball is above your feet remember: do not simply lean back or attempt your swing on a flatter plane. You need to stand as you would for a normal lie. But now you choke down to the bottom of your grip to counter the change in elevation. With the clubface open , take the club back and outside your target line, now swing through along the line of your open stance. If you let your right hand pass over the left, the slope will send the ball left, so keep your hands quiet as the club cuts through the sand.

And no matter what the circumstances are, don't allow tension to ruin your techinque. Tension will ruin even the best of golf swings. Keep your body and your mind loose and positive. Always imagine yourself handling the shot with success. What the mind sees, the body will do. You golf game will improve immensly when you add these tips.

Bunkers And Sand Traps - How To Play Them

By Lee MacRae

A bunker beside the green is a fearsome place to be. Surprisingly, this is one of the easiest shots to perfect and can actually be an enjoyable part of your golf game. Just learn the proper techniques and apply a few tips and your bunker game will flourish.

Hitting from a buried lie in the bunker [otherwise known as a "fried egg"] isn't as difficult as most golfers think. In fact, a shot that gets the ball out is closer to a normal golf shot than a conventional bunker shot is. That's because you play the shot with your clubface closed. Remember that the flange of a sand wedge is designed to prevent you from digging into the sand. But with a buried lie, digging in is exactly what you want to do. Close the face of your wedge, hit down into the sand and inch or two behind your ball. This is one of the few sand shots in which a follow-through isn't just important, it shouldn't exist at all! Some golfers have even been known to let the club go at impact. Note; this shot can also be played with a pitching wedge, which is almost guaranteed to dig in.

Simply because the technique is similar to that used for a level lie from a bunker the sidehill lie is not that tough. While you take into account the affect the slope will have on the flight of the ball, you do not alter the steepness of your swing. A ball above your feet will want to go left. A ball that is below your feet it will tend to go to the right. Just adjust your stance accordto the circumstances and swing along the slope. To make this easier, flex your knees more and stand closer to the ball when it lies below your feet; stand straighter and farther from the ball when it lies above.

Visual imagery is commom in bunker play. Some instructors tell students to imagine that the face of the club is the palm of their hands, which they "slap" under the ball in the hitting zone. We prefer to think of money. A dollar bill is slightly more than six inches long. That means that if the bill is laid under a golf ball, about two inches of the ball would protrude back from the bill. As the ideal "explosion shot" demands that you hit into the sand roughly two inches behind the ball, you should pretend that you're hitting the dollar ball out of the bunker. This is an especially useful image because in order to hit the ball right out of the bunker, you'll need to complete your follow-through, and that's another important element of just about every sand shot.

The average golfer usually fears the shot from a sand bunker and is defeated before they even attempt one. With practice, keeping in mind the proper technique and a few tips and hints, sand play will be a lot easier than you imagined. And your golf game will be better for it.

Sand Trap Tips

By Lee MacRae

Are you afraid of sand bunkers on the golf course? Do you panic when you see one near where you need your ball to land? Follow along as we detail some tips and tricks to make sand play much easier for you.

There are occasions when it's a good idea to putt out of a bunker, or use the "Texas wedge". The bunker should have firm sand and little or no lip, and there should be a smooth surface between the ball and the edge of the bunker. Address the ball as you would a putt, with the ball in the center of your stance. Swing with the arms and shoulders, but keep the wrists firm and the rest of your body, especially your head, absolutely still. The key is to make solid contact. Be careful not to ground the putter. If you do, you will be penalized.

The worst thing about hitting an uphill sand shot is that your ball probably is plugged in the sand. Balls that aren't plugged usually roll back down to a flat area. Here's how to play the shot: anchor your body by planting your right foot solidly in the sand, and slant your shoulders so that they are parallel with the slope. The swing for the shot isn't pretty. Just pick up the club sharply, keeping your legs still, and whack the sand behind the ball. Don't try to follow through. Remember that in such a perilous position any recovery is a good recovery.

And no matter what you do, even for sand play, always imagine the shot before you take it. And imagine the shot being succesfull! Not much sense in defeating yourself before you even start. Imagine yourself being successful throughout your golf game and watch your game flourish.

Equipment, Golfing equipment has moved on a tremendous amount since the games inception, as has the accessories that are now available. Perhaps the most important of these accessories to your enjoyment of the game, both in term of game improvement and the overall benefits to your health is the golf trolley. An electric golf trolley also contributes to your performance by helping you to maintain muscle control, balance and body symmetry throughout the entire game. Pushing or pulling a heavy trolley strains your muscles and people who pull their carts have the maximum chance of getting a back sprain. The ultimate result is that you fail to make the best strokes that might have got you a birdie. An electric Golf trolley, as the name suggests, is a battery operated automatic cart that could be either manual or remote control. It provides easy transportation of clubs from tee to green and allows a normal upright posture while walking. This reduces the risk of strains and injuries. This also provides added comfort and helps the golfer to concentrate on his swing.

As for golf clubs, many things affect this decision. First, base the length of your club by your height. Standard clubs should not be used for someone who is very tall or very short. There are also different weights to a club. Lighter clubs allow higher speeds, which is a common choice for female golfers. Another factor to consider is the loft angle of a club. This can be used to cover a greater distance. With a higher loft, you will achieve better trajectory. If you swing rather slow, a golf club with a higher loft may be the best selection.

Wondering which golf clubs you should buy?

By: Lee MacRae

With a larger variety of golf clubs coming onto the scene every week, it can become more and more difficult to determine just exactly what you should be looking for when buying new clubs.

We will go through a few basic tips to help you determine which golf clubs are right for you.

First of all, it can be stated that standard golf clubs will work for just about anyone standing between 5 to six feet in height. The principle applies to both sexes. Taller or shorter? Then custom clubs may now come in to the picture.

Cast Iron or Forged Iron Golf Club?

For just about all golfers, the standard cast iron golf clubs are the right choice.

And there is a reason for that. Because of the larger "sweet spot" you tend to find on the cast iron clubs. This is the are in the center of the club face where "forces" are said to be perfectly balanced to deliver the perfect shot. That is why you see a lot of oversized club heads on the market today. They allow average duffers the opportunity of striking the ball well and getting great drives more often.

Conversely, forged iron golf clubs have a much smaller sweet spot and it is far more difficult to hit a ball well with this kind of club.

Which begs the question. Why make forged iron clubs?

Because the "softer" forged metal gives the golfer a better feel than the harder cast iron does. The more experienced golfers can use this feel to great advantage, shaping their shots, even curving them intentionally when the circumstances require it. So, in effect, they trade off the larger sweet spot for the shot shaping feel of a forged iron club.

The shaft of the club is the next item to look at. What will it be made of? A composite or steel?

The important touchstone here is golf club speed. An ordinary golf player will have a club velocity of 80-94 mph. Slower speeds normally means looking at a shaft made from composite material.

With just a few small tips like this, you should be able to determine which clubs will work for you and why. Knowing why is just a important because you will be able to adjust your equipment as you improve on your game over time. If you find your swing speed improving, you may find you will be able to switch to clubs that will give you the feel and shot selection of the better players.

If you implement these tips and work on them, you will be certain to develop a better drive within a short period of time. Just keep on practicing and working on your improvement. It's only a matter of time before your scores begin to drop.

Most golfers tend to wear a golf glove. The golf glove is normally worn on the other hand to your master hand; therefore if you are right handed you would wear the glove on your left hand. Golf Etiquette

By: Jeff Austin

The rulebook has a lot in it that you should know, but you dont have to memorize it, keep a copy in your golf bag and your will always be ready.

The way you should act on a golf course however, are things that you must know and observe.

Golf is special because of the many customs including good sportsmanship that go with the game.

Here are some of the most important ones you need to observe while on the green:

*Dont stand where a person putting can see you or your shadow

*No noise making, no opening and closing your Velcro glove or jingle the change in your pocket, and NEVER accidentally cough during someones shot.

*Dont applaud a miss even if it means you or your team now have an advantage, this is extremely rude.

*Always mark you ball, use a ball mark (given away in pro shops) a coin or rock are also acceptable, anything that doesnt move. Put it behind the ball on the extension of your target line.

Ask a player whose line is on your mark if he would like it moved and which way.

Put the heel of your putter next to the mark and place the mark just outside the toe. When the player is finished, move your mark back, if you forget it is a penalty.

*Watch where you walk on the green, know where the balls are and dont walk on their line or it extension on the far side of the hole.

*Walk well around the hole unless you are tapping a ball in or picking it up out of the cup.

*Dont drag your feet on the green, it damages the grass and causes spike marks that cant be repaired until you have finished putting.

*It is against the rules to give advice, except to your partner, so be careful what you say after you have holed out.

*Dont be a slowpoke, you dont have to rush but shouldnt take to long either.

golf clubs

To make it easier to transport your golf clubs, both on and off the course you require something to carry them in. This is where the golf bag is used. The golf bag is used more than just for carrying your clubs however, it is also a piece of equipment which you use to protect your golf clubs. There are numerous varieties of golf bag available and the choice bag is down to both personal preference and requirements. For example if you will not be using a golf cart then a stand bag will probably be your requirement, however if you will be using a golf cart then it may be more beneficial to use a cart bag. The golf bag will protect your golf clubs from banging into each other and also protect the shafts against wear. The golf bag is of course able to carry other things other than your clubs, there are numerous pockets on the bag where you can put your golf balls, tees, drinks, waterproofs etc.

Price is another factor to pay attention to. High prices do not always equate to a higher quality golfing product. When you pay more money, this doesn't mean your handicap will magically decrease. Spend more time choosing the correct product and less money trying to purchase skill. There are also plenty of golfing fads on the market. Don't become a victim to flashy packaging or alluring imagery. Aim for getting the best product for the most reasonable price.

Golf Mind Power For A Life Change

By: Randy Friedman

When you learn to get out of your own way, the world becomes an easier place. I believe when you go within, you wont go without!

Hypnosis is a completely safe modality of therapy used frequently in sports (especially golf hypnosis) and personal development concepts. As a Motivational mind power speaker and Certified hypnotherpist, Randy knows how to help you get out of your own way. Here are some answers to questions that have arisen about gaining mind power through hypnosis.

1. What IS hypnosis?

Imagine a beautiful tropical beach in your mind, smell the salty ocean air, feel the warm breeze brush through your hair, see the gentle waves caress back and forth on the shore this may be part of the induction used to bring you to a place of complete relaxation.

Hypnosis is NOT a sleep state even though a person in hypnosis may appear to be sleeping. Charles Tebbetts, a top teacher of hypnosis, defined hypnosis as, There is no legal definition of hypnosis. Websters dictionary describes it incorrectly as an artificially induced sleep, but it is actually a natural state of mind and induced normally in everyday living much more often than it is induced artificially. Every time we become engrossed in a novel or a motion picture, we are in a natural hypnotic trance.

As a Hypnotherapist I am more like a guide who facilitates the hypnotic process. My words guide the subject into a relaxed state of body and mind. Technically, a person experiencing hypnosis slows down their brain waves from BETA into ALPHAand some people actually enter THETA during deep trance states. (THETA is normally the dream state we pass through on the way to and from DELTAor deep sleep.) Interestingly enough, we all pass through ALPHA on the way to and from sleep, so in a sense all of us experience hypnosis at least twice daily.

Hypnosis is the heightened state of awareness where the conscious mind is bypassed, and the subconscious mind is brought into focus. When the subconscious mind is alert, positive suggestions are made for changes to take place.

Simply put, hypnosis is a deeply relaxed state of mind, where suggestions are made to effect a desired change. It can also be thought of as guided meditation.

2. Does a hypnotized person lose control?

I hear this quite often and actually, it teaches you how to gain your mind power control. Remember the last time you watched a movie and you actually felt emotion? You were literally in a hypnotic trance, although you still have the power to come out from that state if you so desired. Your mind may be guided by a movie, TV show, self-hypnosis audio program, or Hypnotherapist, but YOU still have the power to resist.

Some people who seem to partially give up control of their minds (like in Stage Hypnosis), is because of a misunderstanding of who has the power. One can be TRICKED into believing that they have given up control in some forms of stage hypnosis. Always remember, ALL HYPNOSIS IS SELF-HYPNOSIS. You have the control of letting your conscious mind get into a deeply relaxed state. Its important to realize the real power iswithin OUR OWN MINDS! That is what MIND POWER is all about, learning to gain control of your thoughts.

Hypnosis is like a massage for the brain!

3. What does hypnosis feel like?

Since hypnosis is a natural state of mind, clients are often surprised that they hear every word. You may have a feeling of calm, and light (or weightless), or very heavy as if sinking into the chair. In a really deep state, the feeling may be euphoric for some, or almost like being intoxicated without the side effects. In the first session some only go into only a light state of trance, and may believe that he or she was not hypnotized. With progressive sessions, and trust is built, students usually let go and do go to deeper levels of trance, which can be more beneficial.

Certain abilities may be enhanced during the hypnotic process itself:

 The ability to IMAGINE

 The ability to REMEMBER

 CREATIVE abilities

 Receptiveness to SUGGESTIONS

The last ability creates the appeal of hypnosis as well as the fear of hypnosis to others. There is nothing to fear with a trusted professional. Here lies the real advantage in hypnotherapy. It is the capacity for the subconscious mind to accept suggestions while in a relaxed trance state that makes hypnosis so effective. Its the reason top athletes, actors and politicians make use of it.

Seven-Wood: The Golf Wood of Choice

By: Eric Slarkowski

If you are overlooking the potential of your seven-wood, you may want to take a closer look at the collection of clubs in your golf bag. Many golfers believe the seven-wood to be the best field wood in a golf bag.

However, this is not a universally accepted statement since it is ultimately a matter of the golfers opinion. But, many golfers believe that the seven-wood is as close to the perfect golf club as he or she can have. The seven wood swings as smoothly and easily as the six-iron but is also more accurate and gives more distance to the ball.

The seven-wood can be a great golf club from about 225 years in depending on the golfers physical strength. The seven-wood makes it fairly easy to get under the ball and get good elevation to move the ball in toward the green with very few strokes, the ultimate golfing goal. If a golfer has a seven-wood with a graphite shaft, he or she will have a greater feel of the ball as opposed to a seven-wood with a metal shaft. The graphite shaft causes the club to be more flexible and gives the ball slightly more lift upon contact.

The seven-wood is also a great club for a long par 3 or short par 4 hole. Lets imagine the golfer is looking at a 180 yard par 3. Now, he or she could choose to make the drive with a three or four iron club and probably make a fairly good drive. However, choosing a golf wood like the seven-wood, gives golfer a slight edge as he or she can tee the ball slightly higher and in the direction of the green. This is especially true if the drive is made with the ball near the back of his or her stance, thus reducing the power of the swing and preventing the drive from flying the green.

If the golfer were to make a slight alteration in his or her stance, the seven-wood could also help the golfer get past an obstacle. Lets say a golfer is approximately 180 years out on the green with a tree about ten years directly in front of him or her. By altering his or her stance by opening it up slightly and changing the hips position, the golfer can more easily hook or slice the ball around the tree yet without causing the ball to become out of play. The golfer can get the shot he or she needs, with adequate elevation, but without the negative repercussions such tough shots often carry with them.

However, it is always a good idea to spend some time practicing this shot on the driving range with the seven-wood before attempting it out on the course and in an actual game.

Tips To Improve Your Golfing

By: Jimmy Cox

A fine and experienced golfer is not necessarily a good teacher of the game. Why? Because many cracks do not know how they play themselves - when it comes to anything like a close analysis of their shots - and they have no idea at all of how a beginner must feel in order to make the shots that they make.

Let me illustrate that last point, because it is fundamental to teaching and to learning. All crack players feel that they swing from in-to-out when driving. I have been doing this so long that it no longer feels a "guided" or unnatural swing to me. Indeed if I feel myself making any other sort of swing I know it will result in a bad shot.

Yet with the beginner this in-to-out swing does feel unnatural and gives an impression that the ball will be pushed into the rough to the right. This feeling will of course be corrected by experience. This disparity in feeling about shots as between the crack and the beginner must never be lost sight of in teaching.

Every teacher has to keep continually in mind the fact that the natural thing for any golfer to do if he thinks first of hitting the ball to the hole rather than of making the shot correctly - is to swing the club head down the desired line of flight. The urge to do this is so strong that a merely academic knowledge of where the club head ought to be felt to go cannot stand against it. William James said that where there is a conflict between the Will and the Imagination, the Imagination always wins.

So no Will to make a correct swing - unless reinforced by our conscious control-can resist, when imagination of the ball flying straight for the hole supervenes. What usually happens is that before the back swing is completed, the player transfers his attention from the matter of making the correct swing to the matter of where he wants to hit the ball, i.e., somewhere at the top of his swing he switches from a correct in-to-out swing to one along the desired line of flight. Consequently he comes down outside the ball.

It is quite useless to tell a pupil he has done wrong when acting instinctively unless you tell him why he did wrong and so enable him to avoid the fault in future. That I always do.

The player who comes down outside is almost invariably thinking of where he wants to put the ball, and the only effective way of overcoming his trouble is by getting him to concentrate on the swing that experience tells him will place it there. If this is done his conscious control - his feeling for the right movements, plus a steady intention to follow will inhibit his natural desire to take disastrous short cuts.

A swing must be built up which can be accepted by the mind as well as the muscles as a satisfactory means to the end desired, and then concentrating on the production of that swing. With a properly felt swing, the swing becomes the aim and the matter of where the ball will fly is left (as it should be) to take care of itself.

And finally, the good golfer feels his swing as all one piece. It is produced by a psycho-physical unison and its control is outside the mind of the player. Any control that is within the mind is subject to the state of the mind and is therefore unreliable.

A single sound line of controls is set up if the student has consistently practiced the same fundamental swing for every shot. Working on these lines and refusing to be side-tracked by extraneous ideas such as "hitting a long ball" or "driving straight down the middle," you can begin to feel a complete assurance that you can at least rely upon producing your best shots every time. They will become a habit with you.

Golf Equipment: Digital Scorekeeper To Golf Driver

By: Clinton Maxwell

Thanks to the popularity of golf, there are many golf gadgets available today. As more people want to play the game, more ways are sought to improve their game. The once steady golf industry has now expanded to a much larger industry. Some companies are built around only one piece of golf equipment. Golf gadgets available range from some incredibly useful golf aids to some slightly more ridiculous items. Here are some of the options.

If you cant seem to find the time to spend at the driving range and your backyard is too small to practice your golf swing, all hope is not lost thanks to virtual golf. Of course, this is not quite as satisfying as feeling the club strike the ball, but it may be a good solution between trips to the course. As the name suggests, you place a ball on the tee just like you would otherwise, but the ball will not travel outside a certain area. Or, you can opt for a net in which you can hit the ball except you will, obviously, have to hit the net each and every time.

Now, putting pads and various practice aids have been around for a very long time. You can choose from kits ranging from a simple pad and a cup or those offering such tools as ball return. Regardless of your selection, you can get that extra advantage of some practice time right in your living room or office.

If you like technology, you may enjoy a digital scorekeeper providing an instant way to track your score and save it for future preference. Digital scorekeepers allow you to recall scores from previous games to help you monitor your game and ongoing improvement.

Most avid golfers have probably received some of the silly golf gifts, since there is quite a selection available. Lets turn to golf clubs and covers, for instance. You can find golf covers ranging from cute cartoon characters to handmade crochet and a wide choice of covers somewhere in between. In fact, there are probably very few covers for golf clubs that havent had a time on the market at some point. Golf covers tend to be a universal gift for golfers. Fortunately, they do serve a purpose as they protect the clubs from wear and tear and, considering the high cost of some clubs, this is always a good idea.

If you are struggling with lining up your ball to the spot you should aim, you may benefit from a stencil. You can use the stencil to mark the ball, after which you simply place the ball on the tee and swing with a clear target.

If you are looking to improve your golf swing, a metronome may be a good investment and a great way to improve the rhythm of your swing.

As you see, there are many golf gadgets from which a golfer can choose. The wide selection of golf equipment, golf drivers and accessories are appreciated by each golfer differently. Some may be wasted on one golfer while exactly what another golfer needs.
